Dongguan Mosque

Dongguan Mosque (东关清真大寺) is the principal mosque in Xining, Qinghai province, and an important religious centre for the local Hui Muslim community. The complex dates from the Ming dynasty with later Qing-era expansions and remains an active place of worship.

The mosque complex includes a walled courtyard and a main prayer hall featuring a fusion of traditional Chinese roof forms and Islamic decorative motifs. The site is used for daily prayers, larger congregational services on Fridays and for community events.

Historically the mosque was established and expanded during the Ming and Qing periods and has been maintained as a major centre of Islamic practice in Xining. It has been repaired and altered at various times but retains its role as a living mosque.

The mosque sits in the Dongguan area of central Xining, within walking distance of the city core and transport links.
