Despić House is a historic urban merchant house in the old bazaar area of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, built in the Ottoman period and associated with the Despić merchant family. The building is an example of traditional Ottoman domestic architecture adapted to the town’s commercial neighbourhood.

The house now operates as a small museum illustrating urban life, family household arrangements and local craft traditions from the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods. Interior rooms display domestic fittings and period objects that reflect the household and mercantile functions of the building.

The house is located in Mostar’s old town bazaar area (Kujundziluk), close to the river and the city’s historic core, and is typically visited alongside other Old Town sites.

Despić House is in Sarajevo’s Baščaršija (Old Town). From the central Baščaršija square it is a short walk along the pedestrian lanes; most visitors arrive on foot from the Latin Bridge area (roughly 5-10 minutes). Sarajevo’s main bus station is 15-20 minutes by taxi.

• Enter through the small courtyard off the Baščaršija to avoid the main tourist crush.
• Look for the carved wooden ceilings and the tiny household objects - they form the story of daily life more honestly than any grand room.
• Ask staff about the collection's Ottoman-era documents; they often remove select pieces for scholars by request.
