Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas is the main campus of the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas, designed chiefly by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva in the mid-20th century. The campus is noted for combining modern architecture with integrated public art across its buildings and open spaces.

Prominent components include the Aula Magna with Alexander Calder’s suspended acoustic sculptures, a large covered plaza that functions as the campus center, and many exterior murals and sculptures by national and international artists. The overall site is cited as a major example of modern urban campus planning in Latin America.

The project was conceived and executed from the 1940s into the 1960s under Villanueva, who coordinated architects and artists to produce a coherent ensemble blending functional university buildings with large-scale art.

The campus occupies a large urban tract within Caracas, set on relatively flat terrain at the foot of the Ávila mountain range and integrated into the city’s central districts.

• Art and architecture: Artworks by Alexander Calder, Wifredo Lam and others are integrated into buildings and public spaces, many created or installed during construction in the 1940s and 1950s.

• Aula Magna: An enclosed auditorium within the campus known for its suspended acoustic panels - the famous “Clouds” - created by Alexander Calder and installed in the early 1950s.

• Open Air Museum of modern art: The campus fabric integrates numerous murals, sculptures and installations by international and Venezuelan modern artists, forming an Open Air Museum across the site.

Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas is inside the city of Caracas (Capital District). From central Caracas it is typically reached by taxi or city bus; driving distance is roughly 6-10 km (about 15-30 minutes by car depending on traffic). Several local bus routes serve the university area and taxis or ride-hail are the most direct option; nearby Caracas Metro stations require a short taxi/bus hop or a 10-20 minute walk depending on which campus entrance you use.

• Visit early on a weekday morning when the campus is quieter and the murals and open plazas are best seen in soft light, before larger groups and classes fill the site.
• Plan ahead to see the Aula Magna (Calder's 'acoustic clouds')-check opening hours or event schedules and book any required access in advance, since internal spaces are sometimes closed for performances or university events.
