Cerros Archaeological Site

Cerros is an archaeological Maya site on the northern coast of Belize in Corozal District, situated on a point at the edge of Corozal Bay. It was a coastal ceremonial and residential center with visible temples, plazas and waterfront features.

The site’s visible remains include pyramid temples and arranged plazas that reflect Maya urban planning and ritual use. Its shoreline location indicates roles in trade, fishing and coastal resources rather than only inland agriculture.

Archaeological work has shown occupation during the Preclassic and Classic periods of Maya history, with both residential and ritual architecture present. Excavations have documented structural complexes, offering evidence of long-term coastal settlement.
