How to Get to Cendajuru
Cendajuru is in eastern Burundi's Cankuzo Province and is best reached by road from Bujumbura or from neighbouring Rwanda. There are no direct commercial flights or rail links; plan for a long overland journey.
Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, Bujumbura (BJM): Bujumbura is the main international airport for Burundi. From Bujumbura to Cendajuru (Cankuzo Province) you must continue by road; the trip can take 6-10 hours depending on road conditions. Overland transport options include long-distance minibuses and hired 4x4s.
Gitega / Small regional airfields: There are no reliable regular commercial flights to Cankuzo Province; air travel will still require a major road transfer from Bujumbura or Kigali (Rwanda).
Train: Burundi does not have a national passenger rail network.
Bus: National and regional buses run from Bujumbura to eastern provinces; expect long journeys (often a full day) to reach Cankuzo with fares that vary by operator. Shared minibuses operate on the main routes and are the primary public transport option for cross-country travel; fares and travel times depend heavily on road quality and season.
