How to Get to Carthage (municipality)

Carthage is easiest reached via Tunis-Carthage Airport (TUN); Enfidha (NBE) is a lower-cost alternative if you don't mind a transfer. From Tunis, local trains, the TGM suburban line and frequent buses/louages make short trips to the Carthage area fast and cheap.

By Air

Tunis-Carthage Airport (TUN): The main airport for Tunis and Carthage, about 8-10 km from the city and the Carthage archaeological area. Taxi into central Tunis or Carthage typically takes 15-30 minutes and costs roughly 10-20 TND; cheaper shared shuttles or airport buses are available for around 2-4 TND and take 30-45 minutes depending on traffic.

Enfidha-Hammamet International (NBE): An alternative for low-cost or charter flights, located ~60-80 km south of Tunis. From Enfidha you can take a hotel shuttle, private transfer, or a combination of train/bus to Tunis; typical transfer coaches or private transfers cost about 15-30 TND and take 1-1.5 hours.

By Train & Bus

Train: Tunis has national rail services operated by SNCFT. The main city stations are Tunis Gare Centrale and Tunis Marine; regional trains and suburban lines connect Tunis with surrounding towns. A suburban rail or commuter train to/from central Tunis usually costs a few dinars (1-4 TND) and travel times inside the metro area are under an hour.

Bus: Intercity buses and louages (shared minibuses) connect Tunis with coastal towns and the interior. Louages depart from main terminals in Tunis and are economical (often 1.5-10 TND depending on distance). Local buses and TGM (Tunis-La Marsa suburban line) provide very cheap short hops to Carthage sites and Sidi Bou Said (single fares under 1 TND on TGM).
