Cape Verde in April: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect

Barlavento Highlands (Santo Antão & São Nicolau)

April brings noticeably warmer afternoons, with daytime temps often topping the low 20s and the hills drying after the cool season. Farm terraces around Fontainhas show the season’s green left from earlier moisture, and spring flowers appear. Trails are easier than in the wet season but still uneven; hikers should carry sun protection for exposed stretches.

São Vicente & Mindelo (urban & cultural coast)

April sees the winds remain reliable while humidity stays low; excursions to Baía das Gatas and nearby beaches are pleasant and the sea is usually calm enough for day trips. Mindelo’s cafés spill onto sidewalks in the afternoon; temperatures are very comfortable for exploring. If you’re into diving or fishing, this is a good shoulder-season pick before the warmer and wetter months.

Sal & Boa Vista (beaches, dunes and resorts)

April’s sun is strong and afternoons can feel hot in exposed sand flats; the persistent trades usually keep the heat from feeling oppressive.
