High / low are average daily temperatures (°C). “Feels” reflects how hot or cold it feels, allowing for humidity.
Black Sea Coast (Varna, Burgas, Sozopol, Golden Sands)
June sees reliably warmer weather and the swimming season is underway; daytime highs usually sit in the low to mid-20s and the water warms into the comfortable high teens to low 20s. Beach towns like Sunny Beach and Golden Sands begin to hum with visitors; nightlife increases and ferries to St. Anastasia or small boat trips to Cape Kaliakra run regularly. If you want fewer crowds, choose smaller resorts like Sozopol’s old town.
Danubian Plain & Northern Bulgaria (Ruse, Silistra, Vidin)
June sees warm, occasionally hot weather; highs commonly reach the low 20s and agricultural fields are lush. Days are long and ideal for exploring Roman and medieval sites, but sudden thunderstorms can form in the afternoon - a rainproof day-sack is useful. Smaller river towns begin to see more domestic tourism, though the region is never as crowded as the coast or mountain resorts.
Sofia Basin & Western Bulgaria (Sofia, Vitosha, Pernik)
June warms steadily and can be hot in the lower basin, with highs commonly in the mid-20s; mountain higher ground remains a cool refuge. Outdoor concerts and terrace dining in Sofia pick up, and this is a good time to visit Rila Monastery before the peak tourist flow. Sun protection and a hat are useful for long walking days in the city and surrounding foothills.
Thracian Plain & Southern Bulgaria (Plovdiv, Kazanlak, Stara Zagora)
June heats up toward summer with daytime temperatures often in the mid-20s and drier skies making outdoor festivals and archaeological visits pleasant. Agricultural activity ramps up, and the dry air is comfortable compared with the coast’s humidity. Early summer is an excellent time for cycling around Plovdiv and exploring ancient Thracian tombs before the late-summer heat intensifies.
Balkan Mountains & Central Ridges (Stara Planina, Shipka Pass, Central Balkan National Park)
June is reliably pleasant for trekking with long daylight, moderate temperatures at mid-elevations and clear views from peaks like Botev. Alpine flowers are at their peak and rivers are lively; mountain rivers and waterfalls attract photographers and day-hikers. Higher ridges remain cooler so pack a fleece and rain protection for afternoon storms.
Rila, Pirin & Rhodope Mountains (Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo, Rila Monastery)
June is an excellent month for alpine hiking: long days, moderate temperatures on the trails and abundant wildflowers in Pirin and the Rhodopes. Mountain refuges operate more fully and popular multi-day routes are accessible, though high passes may still have late snow in shady sectors. Bring sun protection, insect repellent in lower forests, and a light rain layer for afternoon storms.
