Bolotnaya Square is an urban square in central Moscow situated by the Moskva River on the area historically known as Bolotny Island. The name derives from the Russian word for swamp and the square is associated with public assembly and civic events.

The square is an open urban space used for public gatherings and occasional cultural events rather than a tourist attraction built around monuments or museums. It is often visited in the context of walking tours of central Moscow because of its proximity to other central landmarks.

The area takes its name from marshy ground that historically lay along this stretch of the Moskva River; it developed into an urban square as Moscow expanded. In the 21st century the square became notable as a location for large political demonstrations, including rallies connected to the 2011-2012 protest movement.

Bolotnaya Square sits in the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow on the riverbank near the Kremlin and other central Moscow districts, within walking distance of many central city sights.
