Southern Plains (Samtse, Sarpang, Phuentsholing)

November sees pleasantly warm days and cooler nights-ideal for relaxed travel in the Terai fringe, with daytime temperatures often 18-24°C and clear skies. Migrant birds linger on riverbanks and the markets are busy after harvest; this is one of the better months to pass through on your way to Punakha or Paro before winter. Nights can be dewy, so a thin fleece is useful for early-morning drives.

Western Valleys (Paro, Thimphu, Haa)

October is one of the best months here with clear mountain air, cool nights and warm daytime sun-ideal for the Tiger’s Nest hike and sightseeing in Paro and Thimphu; temperatures sit around 8-18°C. Autumn festivals draw locals and visitors alike, so plan ahead for accommodation if your trip overlaps a major tsechu. Photographers prize this month for the defined silhouettes of ridgelines against deep blue skies.

Central Highlands (Punakha, Wangdue, Trongsa, Bumthang)

November brings clear, cool days and cold nights across the highlands; Bumthang’s alpine tone is pronounced with frosty mornings and serene, uncrowded trails. River crossings become more predictable as rains subside, making this a reliable month for longer itineraries. Pack warm nocturnal clothing and a lined jacket for higher-elevation homestays that can be chilly after sunset.

Eastern Hills (Trashigang, Mongar, Trashiyangtse)

November remains dry and clear with chilly mornings; daytime travel is pleasant and the rivers run steady and clear after the monsoon. This is prime time for mountain-view photography and for walking the lower valley trails without mud. Pack warm clothes for dawn and dusk; some remote homestays will have minimal heating and expect simple but welcoming hospitality.

High Himalaya / Northern Alpine Zone (Gasa, Laya, Lunana, high passes)

November sees rapidly shortening days and an early return of snow to the highest ridges; while lower alpine villages like parts of Gasa can still be accessed, many lodges begin to close for winter. Daytime trekking is possible at popular lower-elevation approaches, but higher passages can receive early heavy snow and be hazardous.
