Monument Grand 18th-century city gate in Meknes

Bab Mansour is the principal monumental gate of Meknes in Morocco and functions as the formal entrance at the city’s main square. It is one of the best-known ceremonial gates constructed during the city-building program of the Alaouite sultans in the early 18th century.
The gate is notable for its large, decorated stone and tile façade, which includes patterned zellij tilework and prominent engaged columns. It is a central focal point for visitors moving between the medina and the adjacent public square.
Constructed as part of Sultan Moulay Ismail’s large-scale building projects, the gate dates to the early 18th century and was intended as a ceremonial and defensive entrance to the royal capital. It has remained a key historic monument in Meknes since that period.
Situated at Place el-Hedim in the heart of Meknes’ historic district, the gate marks the threshold between the old medina and the surrounding urban area in the Fes-Meknes administrative region.
