How to Get to Ánimas
Ánimas and Arecibo-area communities are accessed by road from San Juan's airport or by direct road links along PR-2/PR-22. There is no long-distance rail, so car, taxi, or intercity bus are the standard methods.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU): The main entry point for Arecibo and nearby barrios; driving from SJU to Arecibo/Ánimas takes about 50-80 minutes depending on traffic, and taxis for that distance generally cost $50-$80. Car hire at SJU is the easiest way to reach northern coast towns.
Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport (SIG) / Isla Grande: Small regional airport in San Juan has limited service and is not generally used for reaching Arecibo; use SJU for commercial flights.
Train: There is no island-wide passenger rail to Arecibo; Tren Urbano serves only the San Juan metro and will not reach this part of the north coast.
Bus: Intercity buses and shared minibuses provide service between San Juan and Arecibo; travel times are typically 1-1.5 hours and fares are usually inexpensive on local lines. For reaching smaller barrios expect fewer scheduled options and consider taxis for the last mile.
