How to Get to Acoua#
Acoua is reached by air via Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi International Airport (DZA); onward travel is almost entirely by road. Expect to use taxis, shared minibuses (taxi-collectifs) or a rental car - public transport is limited and informal.
Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi International Airport (DZA): The island’s main airport. Taxis from DZA to Acoua take roughly 30-50 minutes depending on traffic and cost around €30-€50; car rental desks are available at the airport (typical daily rates €40-€80). Shared minibuses/taxi-collectifs operate on some routes at much lower fares (a few euros) but are irregular and not always suited to luggage.
(No other major scheduled airport on Mayotte): There are no other international airports on the island; most flights arrive at Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi, so plan onward ground travel from there.
Train: There is no intercity rail service on Mayotte.

How to Get Around Acoua#
Mayotte is best navigated by road: taxis, shared minibuses and rental cars are the norm. Public scheduled transport is limited and informal, so if you want flexibility rent a car or be prepared to use taxis/taxi-collectifs.
- Taxi (€30-€50) - Taxis are the most straightforward way to get from the airport to Acoua and around the island. Expect roughly €30-€50 from DZA to most points on Grande-Terre; agree a price in advance for longer trips.
- Shared minibus / taxi-collectif (€1-€6) - Informal shared minibuses run between towns and are very cheap (a few euros). Schedules are irregular, vehicles can be crowded and they are not ideal with lots of luggage - but they are the lowest-cost option for local travel.
- Car rental (€40-€80/day) - Renting a car gives the most flexibility for exploring Grande-Terre. Daily rates typically fall between €40 and €80; check insurance and local road rules. Parking in small towns is usually straightforward.
- Taxi boat / ferry - There is no regular passenger ferry needed for travel between Pamandzi (Petite-Terre) and Grande-Terre for most visitors because road links and short causeways exist; organised boat trips are available for sightseeing.
- Walking - Acoua itself is compact and easily explored on foot. Walking is the best way to see the town centre and nearby viewpoints; temperatures can be hot so bring water and sun protection.
