Yuelu Mountain

Yuelu Mountain (Yuelu Shan) is a historic hill on the west bank of the Xiang River in Changsha, Hunan, celebrated for its cultural sites, gardens and urban parkland.

Prominent on the mountain is the ancient Yuelu Academy, founded in 976 during the Song dynasty and later incorporated into modern educational institutions; the area also contains pavilions, temples and memorials linked to Chinese literary and scholarly traditions.

The mountain has served as a center of learning and cultural activity for centuries; its buildings and monuments reflect continuous use from the Song dynasty through the imperial era to modern times.

Yuelu Mountain sits within the urban area of Changsha, immediately west of the Xiang River and adjacent to Hunan University, making it an accessible cultural and recreational destination from the city centre.
