How to Get to Yaguarón
Yaguarón is a small town south-east of Asunción; most international travellers arrive via Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) and continue by road. Paraguay lacks a national passenger rail network, so buses and taxis provide the main public connections.
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU): Asunción’s airport is the main international gateway for Yaguarón (about 45-60 km; 50-75 minutes by road). From ASU you can take a taxi or pre-booked transfer to Yaguarón (approx. 50-90 minutes depending on traffic) or use buses via Asunción’s terminal.
Guarani International Airport (AGT): Ciudad del Este’s AGT is much farther (several hours by road) and is not a practical arrival point for Yaguarón unless you plan an overland detour through eastern Paraguay.
Train: Paraguay no longer has a regular passenger rail network for intercity travel; rail is not a practical option to reach Yaguarón.
Bus: Regular intercity buses depart from Asunción’s main bus terminal (Terminal de Ómnibus) toward Paraguarí and surrounding towns; you can catch a bus to the Paraguarí area and transfer to a local colectivo or taxi for the final 10-20 km to Yaguarón. Journey times from Asunción to Yaguarón are typically 1-1.5 hours; fares are low (small local-bus fares are cheap - expect modest local-currency amounts).
How to Get Around Yaguarón #
Yaguarón is small and easily explored on foot; the historic centre and main buildings are within walking distance. Regional buses connect Yaguarón with Paraguarí and Asunción, while taxis and motorcycle taxis serve shorter hops and connections to nearby villages. Intercity bus services are the usual way to arrive from larger cities; expect very low fares for short local journeys, and carry cash as card acceptance can be limited.
