Yaghnob National Nature Park

Yaghnob National Nature Park protects the Yaghnob Valley and surrounding highland terrain in central Tajikistan and safeguards both natural habitat and the cultural landscape of the Yaghnobi people. The park covers mountainous valleys and alpine meadows used historically for pastoralism.

Hiking and trekking are the main visitor activities, with routes linking traditional Yaghnobi villages, terraced fields and seasonal pastures. The area is valued for its cultural continuity and for landscapes of steep river valleys and alpine ridges.

The protected area was established to conserve the Yaghnob Valley’s unique combination of cultural and natural features and to support the livelihoods of local communities. Management aims include protecting traditional settlement patterns and preventing destructive land uses.

Geographically the park lies in the central mountainous interior of Tajikistan, in river valleys that feed into larger regional drainage systems. Access is from regional roads and local tracks, and much of the park is reached by foot or four-wheel-drive tracks.
