How to Get to Xingning#

Xingning (兴宁) is best reached via Meizhou Meixian Airport (MXZ) or by rail through Meizhou East / Xingning railway stations. Many travellers fly into Guangzhou or Shenzhen and continue by high-speed train or long-distance coach to Meizhou, then use local buses or taxis to reach Xingning.

By Air

Meizhou Meixian Airport (MXZ): The closest airport to Xingning is Meizhou Meixian Airport, which serves regional flights to major Chinese hubs. From the airport you can take an airport shuttle or local coach to Meizhou city centre (around 40-60 minutes); expect shuttle/coach fares in the low tens of CNY (roughly ¥20-¥40). A taxi or Didi from the airport to Xingning will take longer (often around 60-90 minutes) and is typically several hundred yuan depending on traffic.

Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (CAN) / Shenzhen Bao’an Airport (SZX) / Jieyang Chaoshan Airport (SWA): If you arrive at a major international airport such as Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Bao’an or Jieyang Chaoshan, you can reach Xingning by a combination of high-speed train or long-distance coach. From Guangzhou or Shenzhen, take a train (departing from Guangzhou East/Guangzhou South or Shenzhen North/Shenzhen stations) toward Meizhou/Chaoshan and then transfer by local bus or taxi to Xingning; travel times are several hours (typically 3-5 hours from Guangzhou/Shenzhen) and fares vary by service class (approx. tens to low hundreds of CNY for trains, coach fares commonly ¥100-¥200). From Jieyang Chaoshan Airport you can also take coaches or trains toward Meizhou and then local connections to Xingning (journey times vary around 2-4 hours).

By Train & Bus

Train: Xingning is served by regional rail; the nearest major high-speed rail hub is Meizhou East (梅州东站), which connects to Guangdong’s high-speed network. Regular conventional trains also stop at Xingning Railway Station (兴宁站) on regional routes. High-speed journeys from Guangzhou/Shenzhen to Meizhou East typically take a few hours; ticket prices depend on class (second class commonly tens to low hundreds of CNY). From Meizhou East or Xingning station you can take a short taxi or local bus into the town centre.

Bus/Coach: Long-distance coaches link Xingning/Meizhou with Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shantou and other regional cities; coaches usually depart from Meizhou central bus stations and take roughly 3-6 hours depending on origin. Local city buses in Xingning are very cheap (usually a few yuan per ride) and cover most neighbourhoods; intercity coach fares commonly range from around ¥30 for nearby towns to over ¥100 for longer routes. For door-to-door convenience, taxis and ride-hailing (Didi) are widely available for the last mile.

How to Get Around Xingning#

Getting to Xingning is straightforward by rail or coach via nearby Meizhou; the easiest routings use Meizhou East station or Meizhou Meixian Airport for the final leg. Once in the area, local buses and taxis cover most needs, while walking and bike/e-bike rentals are the best way to explore the compact town centre.

  • High-speed train (to Meizhou East) (¥40-¥200) - The quickest public way to the region is to use high-speed services to Meizhou East (梅州东站) and then transfer by taxi or local bus to Xingning. Trains link Meizhou with Guangzhou and other Guangdong hubs; trains are comfortable and reliable for intercity travel. Buy tickets in advance during Chinese holidays; expect a short taxi or bus ride from the station into town.
  • Conventional rail (Xingning Railway Station) (¥5-¥60) - Xingning Railway Station (兴宁站) handles regional conventional trains that connect nearby cities and towns. Services are slower than high-speed rail but often more frequent for local stops. Good option if your origin is a nearby city and you don’t need the speed of the HSR.
  • Long-distance coach (¥30-¥160) - Intercity coaches serve Meizhou/Xingning from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shantou and other cities; coaches depart from main bus stations and are a direct, usually cheaper alternative to trains. Journey times are longer and depend on traffic, but coaches can be convenient for direct city-to-city hops. Bring water and be prepared for fewer amenities than trains.
  • Taxi / Didi (¥10-¥300) - Taxis and ride-hailing (Didi) are widely available and convenient for short hops, airport transfers and door-to-door trips. Metered fares inside the city are inexpensive for short distances, but intercity taxi fares (for example from Meizhou airport or Meizhou East) can be substantially higher-agree on or check the meter/estimate for longer trips. Taxis are the fastest way to reach accommodations outside main bus routes.
  • Local bus (¥1-¥5) - Xingning’s local bus network covers urban neighbourhoods and nearby towns; fares are low (usually a few yuan) and buses run regularly through the day. Buses are the cheapest option for getting around but can be slower and less frequent in outer districts. Have small change or use local mobile payment where accepted.
  • E-bike / Bicycle rental (¥10-¥40) - Short-term e-bike or bicycle rentals are common in smaller Chinese cities and are a flexible way to explore local streets and markets. Suitable for short distances and flat routes; follow local traffic rules and watch for narrow lanes. Rentals are inexpensive for half-day or daily use and are handy where buses are infrequent.
  • Walking - Xingning’s central area is compact and pleasant to explore on foot; walking is often the fastest way to navigate markets, restaurants and historic streets. Pavements can be narrow in places, so wear comfortable shoes and be ready to cross busy roads during peak times.
