Wikala al-Sanadqiya is a historic caravanserai building in Cairo’s old commercial quarter, part of the ensemble of trade-oriented architecture in the medieval city. It served as a functional node in the local market system.
The interior plan generally features a central courtyard surrounded by storage rooms and upper-level guest cells, and the exterior presents practical openings for loading and unloading goods. Visitors can observe the compact, utilitarian layout that prioritizes storage and merchant accommodation over ornament.
Like other wikalas, it was built for merchants to store goods and lodge while trading in the city; through time many such buildings were repurposed for workshops, retail and residential uses. The structure remains part of the historic streetscape of the market quarter.
The wikala is situated in Historic Cairo within Cairo Governorate amid narrow market streets and other historic commercial buildings, accessible by foot from nearby bazaars and urban lanes.
