How to Get to Westonaria
Westonaria is in the West Rand of Gauteng and is most easily reached from Johannesburg's main airports (O.R. Tambo - JNB or Lanseria - HLA). Ground transfers-private car, shuttle or regional buses/minibus taxis-are the normal onward options; allow time for peak traffic around Johannesburg.
O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB): JNB in Johannesburg is the main international gateway for Gauteng. From O.R. Tambo to Westonaria by car or taxi takes roughly 45-75 minutes depending on traffic; metered taxis and app-based rides vary but expect ZAR 500-800 for a direct private taxi. The Gautrain connects the airport to Sandton (Gautrain tickets ~ZAR 110-160 one-way) and from there you can use road transport toward Westonaria.
Lanseria International Airport (HLA): Lanseria is an alternative for some regional flights. It’s further but can be convenient for western parts of Gauteng; transfers to Westonaria by car take around 60-90 minutes depending on route and traffic, with private transfer costs varying by operator.
Train: There is no direct national passenger rail service that connects JNB/Lanseria to Westonaria for regular commuters; Gautrain serves the OR Tambo-Sandton-Midrand axis but not Westonaria.
Bus & Minibus taxi: Intercity and regional bus companies and plentiful minibus taxis serve the West Rand. From Johannesburg’s bus terminals or Sandton you can reach Westonaria by scheduled bus or minibus taxi; travel times from central Johannesburg are typically 1-2 hours depending on traffic. Check local bus company timetables or use regional taxi ranks for current fares.
How to Get Around Westonaria #
Westonaria is best navigated by car or minibus taxi; the town itself is compact enough to walk around the central business area for short trips. Registered metered taxis operate but are less common than informal shared minibuses that link nearby towns and Johannesburg. If you plan to explore the surrounding region, a private car is most convenient. Short local rides on minibus taxis are inexpensive and fares vary by distance; expect to bargain or check local drivers before boarding.

Nightlife in Westonaria #
Nightlife in Westonaria is low-key and focused on local pubs, taverns and restaurants rather than clubs. Evenings are mostly spent at casual local spots or private gatherings, with more options available in nearby larger towns. If you’re after live music or a late-night scene, plan to travel to bigger centres in the Gauteng region where bars and venues run later.
Shopping in Westonaria #
Shopping in Westonaria is practical rather than touristy: you’ll find supermarkets, hardware stores and small clothing and phone shops serving locals. For a wider range of shops, malls and specialist stores, people usually travel toward larger centres in the West Rand or Johannesburg. If you need local crafts or market stalls, check for periodic market days in the town centre or nearby villages, but don’t expect a large handicraft scene.
