Country Weather in June

Representative figures from each country's largest city. High / low are average daily temperatures (°C); “Feels” allows for humidity.

The British Isles (United Kingdom & Ireland)

Early summer sees June brighten considerably: daytime highs commonly reach the high teens to low twenties in London, Dublin and southern England, while Scotland remains cooler. Long daylight in the north invites late-evening walks and festivals-Edinburgh begins to stir in June-though midges can trouble Lochs and western coasts as temperatures rise. Book accommodation early if you want festival dates and expect café terraces and longer tourist opening hours.

The Low Countries & Northern France (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Northern France)

June ushers in longer days and comfortable temperatures often between 16-22°C; the coast cools off with a North Sea breeze while inland cities feel warmer. This is prime time for canal cruises and bicycle tours, and many towns host summer markets and events. Tourist numbers rise but aren’t yet at peak-summer levels; book weekend stays early if you plan to visit events and seaside resorts.

Paris & Central France (Paris, Loire Valley, Burgundy, Champagne)

June warms further, with highs frequently in the high teens to low 20s °C; city terraces in Paris fill out and river cruises operate smoothly on the Seine and Loire. Crowds begin to rise but are not yet at the peak volumes of July; the weather suits long château visits and vineyard tours. Expect occasional summer storms-bring a compact rain jacket for sudden showers during full-day excursions.

The Alps (French, Swiss & Italian Alps)

June warms significantly in valley areas, typically 15-22°C, making it an excellent month for lower-elevation hiking, cycling (Alps stages) and scenic road trips; wildflowers colour meadows and lakes are clear. Some high alpine trails remain blocked by snow, but many lifts in France, Switzerland, and Italy open for summer use. Mosquitoes can appear near alpine lakes-bring repellent-and book popular hut stays in advance.

Mediterranean Coast & Islands (French Riviera, Liguria & Catalonia; Corsica & Balearics)

June moves into full summer warmth-daytime temperatures usually 22-28°C-while sea temperatures rise, especially in the Balearics and Ligurian Riviera, making swimming enjoyable. Crowds build steadily, especially near Nice, Cannes and Barcelona, and coastal roads get busier on weekends. Bring sunscreen and a hat, and reserve accommodation early for July-August stays to avoid inflated summer rates.

Atlantic France & Northern Iberia (Brittany, Bordeaux, Basque Country, Galicia & Northern Portugal)

June is pleasantly warm with daytime highs often 18-24°C; the Atlantic breeze keeps seaside towns comfortable while inland Bordeaux can feel distinctly warmer. This month is excellent for wine-tasting, beach walks, and early summer festivals; expect increasing tourist numbers but not the full crush of July-August. Bring light clothing with a windproof layer for evening breezes and pack swimwear for warm afternoons.

Iberian Interior & Southern Spain & Portugal (Madrid, Andalusia, Extremadura, Algarve)

June ushers in summer heat especially inland: central Spain climbs into the high 20s-low 30s °C, while coastal Algarve and Andalusia warm into the 25-30°C range with cooling sea breezes. This is a good time for beach holidays and evening dining on terraces, but daytime sightseeing in cities like Córdoba can be demanding-plan for siestas and early evening exploring. Bring light clothing, strong sun protection and water for day trips.
