How to Get to Visegrád Mountains
The Visegrád Mountains and the town of Visegrád form part of the Danube Bend north of Budapest. By car it’s about 40-50 km north of Budapest (roughly 45-60 minutes) via Route 11; regular regional buses run from Budapest (buses depart from northern Budapest hubs) and some visitors take the suburban train to Szentendre and change to a bus or boat services toward the Danube Bend to reach Visegrád.
Tips for Visiting Visegrád Mountains
- Start hikes early in the morning to take advantage of cooler temperatures and to avoid the day‑trip crowds that arrive later from the Danube cruise routes.
- Park in Visegrád town and follow the clearly marked trails uphill to the citadel and lookout points for the best panoramic views of the Danube Bend; the main viewpoints are reachable on short, well‑trodden paths.
- If you want quieter trails, head away from the citadel ridge onto the secondary forest paths-many visitors stay at the main monument, so the side routes give a more peaceful mountain experience.
