How to Get to Visegrád, Hungary

Visegrád sits on the Danube Bend north of Budapest and has no direct rail or major airport of its own. Budapest Ferenc Liszt (BUD) is the nearest international airport; from Budapest the easiest public route is bus services that serve the Danube Bend towns.

By Air

Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport (BUD): Budapest is the main international gateway for Visegrád (about 45-60 km). From BUD you can take a taxi or prebooked transfer (approx. 45-70 EUR, 45-70 minutes) or use public transport into Budapest city centre and continue by bus to Visegrád (see below).

Vienna International Airport (VIE): Vienna is an alternative (about 200 km); a combination of rail to Budapest and then bus to Visegrád is possible (total travel 3-4 hours) - useful if you’re combining Vienna and Budapest.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct rail link to Visegrád. The nearest major stations are Budapest Nyugati, Keleti or Deli. Take train to Budapest and then transfer to bus services toward the Danube Bend. Budapest rail services are operated by MÁV.

Bus: Regional Volánbusz lines connect Budapest (Árpád híd / Újpest) with Visegrád; buses from Budapest’s northern bus stops take about 50-70 minutes and are the most straightforward public option. Local buses run between Visegrád, Szentendre and other Danube Bend towns; fares for regional buses are modest (single-digit euros or equivalent in forints).

How to Get Around Visegrád, Hungary #

Visegrád’s compact centre and riverside are easy to explore on foot; expect some steep climbs if you head up to the citadel. Regional buses connect Visegrád with nearby towns and Budapest, and seasonal Danube sightseeing boats operate in warmer months. Taxis and car hire are available but limited; if you plan to explore the whole Danube Bend a car gives more flexibility.
