Vadstena is easiest reached via Linköping (air and rail) with regular regional buses connecting the two towns. For international arrivals, Stockholm Arlanda is an option but expect a longer rail/bus transfer.

By Air

Linköping City Airport (LPI): Linköping is the closest airport (about 35-40 km). From the airport you can travel to Linköping city centre and then onward by regional bus or train toward Vadstena; total travel time to Vadstena is around 35-60 minutes.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN): For international flights ARN is an option; combined travel by train or car to Vadstena typically takes 2.5-3.5 hours depending on connections and transfer mode.

By Train & Bus

Train: The nearest mainline rail hubs are Linköping C and Motala; from those stations you can take regional buses to Vadstena (Linköping to Vadstena ~30-40 minutes by bus). Trains to Linköping or Motala are frequent on SJ/Östgötapendeln services and single fares vary by distance and booking.

Bus: Östgötatrafiken runs regional buses that link Linköping and Motala with Vadstena; bus journeys from Linköping take roughly 30-45 minutes and are straightforward for day trips.
