Vác Cathedral

Vác Cathedral is the principal Catholic cathedral in the town of Vác, Pest County, Hungary, and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Vác. The present building dates from the late 18th century and is a prominent neoclassical landmark on the town’s main square.

Visitors come to see the cathedral’s large interior nave, its twin towers and the church façade that frames the central square. The building is centrally sited in Vác and is regularly used for diocesan services, concerts and civic events.

The current cathedral was constructed in the late 18th century to replace an earlier medieval church and was completed during that period as part of broader episcopal rebuilding in the town. It has remained the principal church of the diocese since completion and retains its historical and religious functions.

The cathedral stands in the centre of Vác on the east bank of the Danube, in Pest County, north of Budapest. It fronts the town’s main square and is within a short walk of the riverside promenade and the historic town centre.
