‘Uruq Bani Ma’arid is a protected Saudi desert of sand seas, dune corridors and relict vegetation; tourists visit for desert safaris, camel routes, conservation projects and to observe arid-adapted flora and fauna.
A large protected desert area in Saudi Arabia located in the northern reaches of the Empty Quarter, designated for the conservation of dune landscapes and desert-adapted wildlife. The site is notable for extensive sand seas, interdune corridors and species adapted to hyper-arid conditions.
The reserve supports populations of desert-adapted mammals and birds and has been the focus of species reintroduction and protection programs. Habitats range from open mobile dunes to stabilized interdune areas with sparse shrub cover.
