Unije Island

Unije is a small Adriatic island in Croatia’s northern Kvarner archipelago, part of the Cres-Lošinj island group. The island has a single principal settlement, also called Unije, and is characterised by pine-covered slopes and rocky shoreline.

A modest year-round population lives in the village, which provides basic services for residents and visitors; tourism and boating are the main economic activities during the warmer months. The island’s sheltered bays and anchorage make it popular with recreational sailors.

Historically used for fishing and small-scale agriculture, the island’s settlement pattern remains compact around the harbour and village core. Access is by passenger ferry from the nearby larger islands and mainland ports.

Unije lies in the northern Adriatic between the islands of Lošinj and Cres and is administratively part of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

• Expect a largely car‑free island-most visitors get around on foot or by bicycle, so plan itineraries and luggage accordingly and check whether your ferry allows vehicle transport before assuming it does.
• Bring cash and basic supplies from Mali Lošinj: services on Unije are limited (few ATMs and shops), so stocking up in the departure port avoids surprises once you arrive.
