Una National Park protects a stretch of the Una River and adjacent landscapes in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina and is known for its clear water, rapids and waterfalls. The park conserves river corridors, waterfalls and forested canyon terrain that are important for both nature and recreation.

Visitors come for day hikes, waterfalls and river-based activities such as kayaking and short rafting trips on designated reaches of the Una. The park’s most famous features include cascading falls and broad river pools that are accessible from established viewing paths.

The park was created in the 21st century to provide state-level protection for the Una river landscape and its biodiversity. Management focuses on balancing recreation, local livelihoods and habitat protection.

Una National Park lies in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, with main access points near the town of Bihać and smaller settlements such as Martin Brod; the river flows westward toward the Croatian border.

What to See#

• Štrbački Buk and Martin Brod: Štrbački Buk is a principal waterfall and one of the park’s best-known sights, with cascades and pools set in a wooded river corridor. Martin Brod is a village and series of smaller cascades and viewpoints frequently visited by park visitors.

• By car: Una National Park is best accessed from the nearby city of Bihać (the main gateway town). From Bihać drive on local roads to park entrances such as Martin Brod and Štrbački Buk - these are short drives from the town.

• By public transport: Regular intercity buses serve Bihać from other Bosnian cities; from Bihać you can reach park areas by local bus, taxi or organised tour transport.

• Base visits around Martin Brod or the Štrbački Buk waterfall and go early in the day to experience the falls before tour groups and rafting parties arrive.
• Book river activities such as rafting or canyoning with a licensed local operator and ask for routes appropriate to your experience-many of the park's best gorges and waterfalls are accessible only with a guide.
• Explore lesser-known walking trails away from the main falls to find quieter viewpoints and small cascades; mid-week visits in spring or autumn reduce crowds and show the river at its most dramatic.
