Tyras Archaeological Site

Tyras was an ancient Greek colony and later Roman town located near the mouth of the Dniester River on the northwestern coast of the Black Sea, in what is now Odesa Oblast, Ukraine. It functioned as a regional trading and maritime centre in antiquity.

Classical sources and archaeological remains place Tyras among the network of Greek colonies founded on the Black Sea coast; the settlement subsequently came under Hellenistic and Roman influence and left material remains such as fortifications and urban structures.

The ancient site sits on the Dniester estuary in Odesa Oblast, within the coastal landscapes of southwestern Ukraine.
