Tuzigoot National Monument

Tuzigoot National Monument is a preserved Sinagua pueblo ruin on a limestone ridge in central Arizona near the Verde River valley. The site consists of a multi-room stone settlement built on a natural promontory.

The main ruin contains well-preserved room blocks and low walls that visitors can view from a raised walkway; a small museum on site displays pottery and tools recovered during excavations. Interpretive displays explain construction techniques and the daily life of the Sinagua people.

Archaeological evidence dates construction and occupation to the pre-contact era when the Sinagua culture inhabited parts of central and northern Arizona. The site was excavated and stabilised to protect the masonry and artefacts.

Tuzigoot sits near the town of Clarkdale in central Arizona, overlooking a bend in the Verde River and surrounded by scrub and oak woodland typical of the region.

• Architecture: The ruin preserves a compact, hilltop stone pueblo constructed by ancestral Southwestern people and is interpreted as a community structure dating to the pre-contact period.

• Visitor centre: A small visitor centre and museum near the site that interprets Sinagua culture, the excavation and preservation of the site, and displays artefacts recovered from the monument.
