Tuvalu in November: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect

Funafuti (capital atoll and lagoon)

Early November starts the return toward the wet season with heavier showers arriving more often and the sea beginning to feel a little rougher under the northwest swell. Inter-island boat schedules become less predictable and small-boat excursions into the lagoon are curtailed by choppy water; the capital sees more indoor community events and market activity on dry days. Pack both sun and rain gear, and expect water-based itineraries to be conditional on daily weather reports.

Northern atolls (Nanumea, Nanumanga, Niutao, Nui)

November brings the first sustained return of heavier showers and the air becomes muggy; inter-island transport becomes more weather-dependent and captains often shorten routes. Fishing conditions turn patchier and snorkeling visibility degrades after heavy rain, so plan water activities for clearer mornings and be prepared for cancellations. Bring a good waterproof for sudden squalls and allow extra days in your itinerary for missed connections.

Vaitupu and Nukufetau (central/eastern islands)

November brings heavier showers with the atmosphere becoming muggy; seas get less predictable and short-term cancellations of boat services are common. The islands keep functioning, but expect interrupted snorkeling and outdoor plans when several wet days cluster. Carry waterproof gear and keep a few spare days in your plans to allow for transport disruptions.

Southern atolls (Nukulaelae, Niulakita)

November sees the onset of wetter, stickier conditions and more frequent squalls that make marine travel unpredictable and reef visibility poor after rains. Transfers to the southern atolls are often postponed, and when travel does occur it’s best scheduled for the calmest morning windows. Bring sturdy waterproofs, a charged power bank and patience: services tighten as the season progresses.
