Northern Coast & Kroumirie Hills (Bizerte, Tabarka)

By April the countryside smells of wet earth and wild thyme as the north moves firmly into spring; Tabarka’s coastal cliffs and tiny bays thaw out after winter. Walks on Cap Negro and the Roman sites near Utica are pleasant, with daytime highs typically in the high teens to low 20s°C and cool evenings. This is an excellent shoulder-season time for diving and snorkelling here because the sea is clearer and there are far fewer holiday crowds than in summer.

Cap Bon & Gulf of Tunis (Tunis, Carthage, Hammamet, Nabeul)

By April the Cap Bon citrus groves are fragrant and the coast warms into reliably comfortable weather-perfect for visiting Hammamet’s medina or the morning markets in Nabeul. Sea temperatures start to feel fresher but inviting for the hardier; daytime highs often climb into the low 20s°C. Shoulder-season prices and smaller crowds make April one of the best months for sightseeing and coastal cycling.

Central Coast & Sahel (Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia, Sfax)

April warms into true spring: jasmine and citrus blossom scent the air, and the Sahel’s beaches look inviting even if the sea is still brisk. Daytime temperatures commonly reach the low 20s°C, perfect for combining archaeological visits with afternoon beach strolls. Shoulder-season accommodation is affordable and local cafés buzz with activity-bring lighter clothing plus a sweater for breezy evenings.

Central Highlands & Dorsal Mountains (Kairouan, Zaghouan, Kasserine, Djebel ech Chambi)

April is a lively month for the countryside: temperatures feel pleasantly warm for long treks and the countryside is fragrant with thyme and wild herbs. Zaghouan’s Roman aqueduct area and hills around Kairouan are at their photogenic best, while the higher peaks are still cool; bring layered clothing for fluctuating conditions. This is one of the best months for multi-day excursions into the Dorsal before the summer heat hardens the landscape.

Southern Tunisia & the Sahara (Tozeur, Douz, Chott el Jerid, Matmata)

April brings warming days that make oases glow and the remote ksars comfortable for long walks; overall temperatures often reach the mid-20s°C. This is excellent time for extended desert trips before the intense heat of summer, with nights still cool enough for comfortable camping. Bring layered clothing for temperature swings and expect more operators to be running overnight desert camps and excursions.
