Tumbatu is a small inhabited island off the northwest coast of Unguja (Zanzibar), within Tanzania’s Zanzibar archipelago and administratively part of Unguja North Region. The island is separated from Unguja by a narrow channel and is home to local fishing communities.
The island has few tourist facilities and is principally visited for its local culture, fishing villages and quiet coastal scenery; most visitors arrive by small boat for day trips rather than overnight resort stays. Commercial development is limited compared with Zanzibar’s main tourist hubs.
