Tsitsernakaberd is the official Armenian Genocide memorial complex on a hill in Yerevan, established in 1967 to commemorate the victims of the 1915 massacres. It is Armenia’s principal national memorial for those events.

The complex includes a circular memorial with an eternal flame and a tall memorial stele, together forming the focus for public commemorations and private remembrances. Visitors commonly lay flowers at the central flame.

A museum adjacent to the memorial documents the history, testimonies and archival material related to the 1915 events and was opened in 1995. The site has become both a national symbol and an international point of reference for education about the genocide.

Tsitsernakaberd occupies a wooded hill on the western edge of central Yerevan, within the city’s administrative area and reachable by road from central squares.

Tsitsernakaberd (the Armenian Genocide Memorial) is on a hill overlooking central Yerevan. From Republic Square and other central locations you can reach the memorial by short taxi ride or by local bus; there is a visitor entrance and steps/paths up through the memorial complex once you arrive by road.

• Visit Tsitsernakaberd in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the busiest memorial periods; arriving early also gives you quieter time at the eternal flame for reflection.
• Go first to the Genocide Museum (adjacent to the memorial) before walking the memorial hill - the museum provides crucial historical context that many visitors miss when they see only the outdoor monument.
• Follow the established routes and signage from the main entrance gate and security checkpoint; the memorial complex is managed with set paths and visiting protocols, and most visitors find the formal route the clearest way to experience both the outdoor and indoor elements.
