The highest of the three peaks was first climbed in 1907 by Tom Longstaff in a noted early Himalayan expedition. Since that first ascent the Trisul group has been a recognized objective within Himalayan mountaineering literature.
Trisul lies in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand in northern India, within the high Himalayan zone of the state.
- Notable first ascent: First climbed by British mountaineer Tom Longstaff in 1907, marking one of the early European ascents of a Himalayan peak above 7,000 meters.
Tips for Visiting Trisul #
- Aim for the pre-monsoon (May-June) or post-monsoon (September-October) windows for the clearest summit views and safer trekking conditions; monsoon months bring heavy snow at higher camps and unstable weather.
- You can view Trisul without mountaineering by staying in nearby Kumaon hill towns such as Kausani or Ranikhet at sunrise - these villages offer panoramic vantage points that many non-trekkers miss.
- If you plan to attempt the climb or base-camp trek, arrange a licensed local guide and permits through a recognized Uttarakhand agency in advance - Trisul is a technical massif and logistics, rescue options and regulations must be handled locally.
Best Time to Visit Trisul #
For climbing or trekking around Trisul, aim for the pre‑monsoon or post‑monsoon windows (April-June or Sept-Nov) when weather is most stable.
