The museum was created by the organizations that operated Tokyo’s subway networks to document and explain subway construction, safety and operation. Over time its exhibits have been updated to reflect newer rolling stock and signaling technology while keeping permanent displays about older equipment.

Physically located in eastern Tokyo near the Kasai/Koiwa area, the museum sits close to the city’s subway network and is reached by local metro lines from central Tokyo stations.

• Access: Housed close to Kasai Station on the edge of Tokyo’s eastern wards, the museum is beside a branch of the subway network and is physically accessible by local metro lines.
• Hands-on exhibits: Contains interactive exhibits and train cab simulators that explain tunnel, signal and rolling-stock systems used on Tokyo’s urban subway network.

Take the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line to Kasai Station; the Tokyo Metro Museum is a short (about 2-5 minute) walk from the station’s north exit into the Kasai-kita area. You can also reach the museum from JR Keiyo Line’s Kasai-Rinkai-Koen Station by a longer walk or a short taxi ride if preferred.

• Go right at opening on a weekday to avoid school groups and families - the museum gets busiest mid-morning and on weekends.
• If you want to try the train driving simulators, head straight there on arrival: they operate on a limited-ticket/queue system and often fill early in the day.
