How to Get to Tirta Empul #
Tirta Empul (Tampaksiring) is reached by road from central Bali: drive from Ubud via Jalan Raya Tegallalang/Jalan Raya Tampaksiring following signs to Tampaksiring/Tirta Empul - many tour operators include it as a stop. A private car from Ubud or Denpasar is the usual option (expect around 30-60 minutes from Ubud, longer from Denpasar depending on traffic). There is limited regular public bus service; most visitors arrive by car or organised tour. From the parking/entrance area it’s a short walk (a few minutes) down to the temple pools.
Tips for Visiting Tirta Empul #
- Arrive early in the morning before the main purification rush-this gives you time to observe the ritual order at the pools and reduces queuing at the spouts.
- Bring or rent a sarong and sash at the entrance and follow the local sequence at the water spouts (wait your turn and move from one fountain to the next) so your cleansing is respectful and efficient.
- Don't stop at the public purification area only: walk the outer temple grounds and stairs where fewer visitors go to see older shrines and reliefs that many people miss.
