How to Get to Tepoztlán
Tepoztlán is a popular pueblo mágico south of Mexico City; most visitors arrive via Mexico City (MEX) and continue by bus or colectivo from Taxqueña or Cuernavaca. There is no direct rail service, so road connections are the normal route.
Mexico City International Airport (MEX): The main airport for reaching Tepoztlán is Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX). From MEX, take a taxi or airport bus to southbound terminals (Terminal Taxqueña) and then an intercity bus toward Cuernavaca; total transfer time to Tepoztlán area is typically 1.5-2.5 hours depending on traffic and connections.
General Mariano Escobedo / Toluca / Cuernavaca airports: Toluca (TLC) and Cuernavaca (CVJ/General Mariano Matamoros, smaller domestic) have limited schedules; flying into or arriving at Cuernavaca airport shortens the onward road transfer to Tepoztlán significantly compared with Mexico City.
Train / Metro + Bus: There is no direct intercity train to Tepoztlán. From Mexico City, take the Metro/metrobus to Taxqueña (south bus terminal) and then catch a direct bus or colectivo towards Tepoztlán-buses depart frequently and the ride from Taxqueña is around 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic; fares are modest (a few dozen MXN).
Bus / Colectivo: Regular buses and colectivos run from both Mexico City (Taxqueña) and from Cuernavaca to Tepoztlán. From Cuernavaca the trip is about 30-45 minutes; from Mexico City expect 1.5-2+ hours in normal traffic. Colectivos can be faster but fill quickly.
