Tangkou Travel Guide

Tangkou village is one of the gateway towns to Huangshan Mountain in the south of Anhui Province. The view of the UNESCO World Heritage Yellow Mountain from the main street in Tangkou is sublime and you can even walk to it.

Tangkou is not the most convenient gateway to Yellow Mountain, but the village is nice to stay in for a day or two. In addition, Tangkou is the start point of the longer hike up the mountain, although there is nothing remarkable about the walk to the foot of the mountain.

Shuttles run every 20 minutes or so from Tangkou to the Yuping and Xin Yungu cable cars for the ascent of Yellow Mountain. Taxis also run to the nearby hot springs, along with the other scenic areas at the foot of Yellow Mountain.

Getting There & Away

Nearby Tunxi Airport is the easiest way to get to Yellow Mountain from afar and is an hour’s bus ride from Tangkou. Flights are fairly limited to Tunxi, so flying to Shanghai Pudong is a better option. Huangshan train station in Tunxi receives an overnight service from Shanghai (13 hours), as well direct buses.
