Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN): Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City is the nearest major airport (about 50-60 km). From SGN you can take a taxi/Grab direct to Tân An (typical fare VND 350,000-650,000; journey time 1-2 hours depending on traffic), or take a public bus to Mien Tay (Western) Bus Station then a regional shuttle to Tân An (combined cost often VND 60,000-150,000; 1.5-2.5 hours total).
Can Tho International Airport (VCA): Can Tho is farther southwest and has limited domestic services. From VCA you can catch a shuttle or interprovincial bus toward Long An/Tân An (typical fare VND 100,000-200,000; journey time around 2-3 hours) or hire a taxi/Grab (higher cost, 500,000+ VND, 2-3 hours).
Train: The North-South (Reunification) railway serves Tân An via Tân An Railway Station (Ga Tân An). Trains from Sài Gòn Railway Station (Ga Sài Gòn) to Tân An take roughly 1.5-2 hours on services that stop there; fares depend on class (rough guide VND 40,000-120,000 for hard/soft seats or sleepers on some services). Check timetables-only certain trains call at smaller stations.
Bus: Interprovincial buses and minibuses run from Bến xe Miền Tây (Mien Tay / Western Bus Station) in Ho Chi Minh City to Tân An frequently; journey time is typically 1.5-2.5 hours and fares are commonly VND 60,000-120,000. There are also provincial bus routes and shared shuttles between Long An and neighboring provinces; for local connections check the Mien Tay station departures or local ticket offices in Tân An.
How to Get Around Tân An
Tân An is a small provincial city best navigated by motorbike, Grab/taxi or short local buses; trains and intercity buses connect it efficiently to Ho Chi Minh City. For most visitors a mix of walking in the centre and Grab or xe ôm for longer trips offers the best balance of speed, cost and convenience.
- Grab / Taxi (20,000-650,000 VND) - Grab (app-based) and metered taxis are the quickest and most convenient ways to get around locally and for trips to/from HCMC. Within Tân An short rides typically cost VND 20,000-80,000; trips to Ho Chi Minh City are proportionally higher (VND 350,000-650,000). Expect ease of booking and air-conditioning; negotiate or confirm price for journeys outside app coverage.
- Motorbike taxi (Xe ôm) (10,000-60,000 VND) - Xe ôm drivers are plentiful and the cheapest way to move short distances or navigate side streets. Single fares are low (typically VND 7,000-15,000 within the province) and timetables are often posted at stops or available from the bus company. Not well suited for tight schedules or early/late services.
- Intercity buses / shuttles (60,000-150,000 VND) - Direct intercity buses and private shuttles connect Tân An with Ho Chi Minh City (Mien Tay bus station) and other Mekong Delta towns. These are economical for transfers (VND 60,000-150,000) and luggage-friendly; journey times to HCMC are typically 1.5-2.5 hours. Book at Mien Tay or through reputable carriers for a guaranteed seat.

Journey times from Sài Gòn Station are about 1.5-2 hours for services that stop at Tân An; fares vary by class (roughly VND 40,000-120,000). Check which services stop at Tân An-not all express trains call at smaller stations.
- Walking - Tân An city centre is compact and easily explored on foot; walking is the best way to visit markets, temples and the riverside. Pavements can be uneven in places, so wear comfortable shoes and be ready to step into the road around parked vehicles. Use walking combined with short Grab or xe ôm rides for longer hops.
