Taghazout is a small Moroccan fishing village on the Atlantic coast north of Agadir, famous for its right-hand point breaks and a winter sun season that draws surfers and remote workers from all over Europe. Surf-and-cowork houses, coliving and cafes have grown up around the village, and a comfortable month costs about $1,500.

It is a village, not a city: there is little nightlife, limited shopping and patchy internet outside the coworking spaces. This guide covers what you need to set up for a few weeks or more. For sights as a visitor, see the Taghazout travel guide.

Why Taghazout Works for Remote Workers#

  • Surf. Anchor Point, Killer Point, Panorama and beginner waves nearby, best from October to March.
  • Winter sun. Mild, sunny days while Europe is grey.
  • Close to Europe. Agadir airport has cheap flights to most of Western Europe.
  • European hours. Morocco keeps UTC+1 for most of the year.
  • Built for nomads. Surf-and-cowork houses combine a desk, a room, surf lessons and a community.

Who It Suits (and Who It Doesn't)#

Taghazout suits surfers, beginners who want to learn, and Europe-hours workers looking for winter sun and a social, outdoor life. It suits you less if you need a city, nightlife, very fast internet everywhere, or a big choice of food.

Visas#

Citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and many other countries can stay 90 days visa-free. Morocco has no nomad visa; staying longer means a residence permit, which requires a reason such as work or study.

What It Costs#

These are monthly costs for one person staying in a surf house, coliving or small apartment, in US dollars at about MAD 9 to 10 to the dollar. Winter is high season.

Surf and yoga $80 - $300 Board rental, lessons and yoga classes
Social life and extras $80 - $200 Sunset sessions and day trips to Paradise Valley

These are ballpark estimates, not quotes. Real costs vary hugely with your lifestyle, which neighbourhood you live in, how often you eat out or take taxis, the season and the exchange rate. Use them to compare places, then check current prices before you commit.

Ways to save: stay in Tamraght or Aourir, eat at local restaurants, and rent an apartment directly for a month rather than booking a surf package.

Many surf camps and guesthouses have their own workspaces, and cafes in the village welcome laptops, though their Wi-Fi is usually not good enough for video calls.

Internet and SIM Cards#

Coworking spaces have fibre or reliable connections of about 100 to 200 Mbps. Many apartments rely on 4G routers. Buy a Maroc Telecom, Orange or inwi SIM and top up with data packs for a backup.

Getting Around#

The village is walkable. Grand taxis and buses run along the coast to Agadir (about 30 minutes) and Tamraght; agree the fare first. A rental car or scooter makes trips to Paradise Valley and Imsouane easier. Agadir airport is about 45 minutes away.

Weather and When to Go#

October to April is the best time for surf, with sunny days of about 20 to 25°C. Summer is warm and busy with Moroccan holidaymakers, with smaller waves. During Ramadan, the pace slows and some cafes close in the day.

Community and Meeting People#

The community is built around surf houses, coworking and coliving: shared dinners, surf trips, yoga and sunset sessions make it easy to meet people.

Health and Safety#

Taghazout is safe and relaxed. Respect local customs, especially in the village. The ocean is the main risk: surf within your level. Clinics and hospitals are in Agadir; carry health insurance.
