How to Get to Tadine
Tadine is on Maré Island (Loyalty Islands) and is reached almost exclusively by air from Nouméa (domestic flights to Maré Airport). Sea crossings are possible but infrequent - plan and book ahead.
Nouméa La Tontouta International Airport (NOU): The main international airport for New Caledonia, near Nouméa. Domestic flights to Maré (Maré Airport, MEE) are operated by Aircalin and Air Loyauté; flight time to Maré is around 50-70 minutes. From Maré airport it’s 10-20 minutes by road to Tadine.
Maré Airport (MEE): Maré’s airport (often called La Roche/Maré) receives domestic flights from Nouméa. The small aircraft and limited seat numbers mean schedules can be thin - book early in high season.
Train: There is no rail service connecting Maré or other Loyalty Islands to the mainland.
Bus / Road transfer: Public transport on Maré is limited. Taxis and arranged transfers from the airport into Tadine are the practical options; there are a few local minibuses and shared taxis for island travel. Regular ferry services between Nouméa and Maré are limited and tend to be occasional freight/passenger sailings - check local schedules.
How to Get Around Tadine #
Tadine is the main township on Maré in the Loyalty Islands and is compact enough to walk for most short errands. For island travel, bikes and motorbikes are commonly used; there are also occasional bus-like services and local taxis. Maré is connected to Grande Terre (Nouméa) by regional flights and less-frequent ferries, so inter-island travel should be booked in advance. Services on the island are basic; carry cash and expect simple road conditions.
