The Stroganov Palace is a major Baroque palace in central St. Petersburg, constructed in the mid-18th century for the Stroganov family. It is an important example of St. Petersburg Baroque architecture and is administered as part of the State Russian Museum.
Visitors see the richly decorated exterior façades and, where public access is offered, interior exhibition rooms that display period decoration and museum displays. The palace is often highlighted on architectural and cultural tours of Nevsky Prospect.
Commissioned by the Stroganov family in the mid-1700s and attributed to the architectural circle of Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the building was later remodeled in the 19th century by other architects. Over time it passed into state ownership and was incorporated into the museum network.
The palace stands on Nevsky Prospect in central St. Petersburg along the Moika/Fontanka river corridor, within the historic city centre and close to many other major museums and churches.
