Stavronikita Monastery is one of the twenty ruling monasteries on the monastic peninsula of Mount Athos in Greece. It functions as an active Eastern Orthodox monastic community with religious buildings and living quarters clustered on a coastal site.

The monastery contains the typical elements of Athonite monastic life - a katholikon (main church), monks’ cells, and communal spaces - and it continues to operate as a religious community rather than as a tourist site. Visitors who are permitted to enter Mount Athos encounter its chapels, frescoes, and monastic collections.

Founded in the medieval period, the monastery has a long history within the Athonite tradition and has undergone phases of building and rebuilding over centuries. It remains part of the autonomous monastic polity of Mount Athos and follows its liturgical and administrative practices.

Stavronikita sits on the eastern coast of the Athos peninsula in northern Greece, part of a remote and rugged coastal landscape accessible only by boat or on foot under the special-access rules that govern Mount Athos.

Stavronikita Monastery is on the Mount Athos peninsula and can only be visited by men who hold the special Mount Athos entry permit (diamonitirion). Access to Mount Athos is by sea: take the ferry from Ouranoupoli (the usual embarkation point on the Halkidiki mainland) to the main Mount Athos port at Dafni, then transfer to a local coastal/pilgrim boat that calls at individual monasteries - these coastal boats stop at Stavronikita’s jetty or the nearest shore landing. Plan travel around the permit and the scheduled ferry/coastal-boat timetables.

• Remember Mount Athos is male‑only and every visitor (men only) must secure a diamonitirion (pilgrims' permit) in advance from the Pilgrims' Office-do not travel expecting on-the-spot admission.
• Plan your approach through the established ferry route (Ouranoupoli to Dafni) and book monastery hospitality ahead; Stavronikita is accessible only by sea and by monastic invitation, so communication with the monastery beforehand is essential.
• Travel in the main visiting season (late spring-early autumn) for more predictable boat schedules and open guest facilities, and be prepared for simple monastic accommodation and the possibility that liturgical schedules may limit sightseeing times.
