A high viewpoint on Moscow’s southern bank of the Moskva River, Sparrow Hills offers panoramic city views, parkland walks and easy access to Moscow State University and riverside paths.
Sparrow Hills (Vorobyovy Gory) is a prominent hill on the right bank of the Moskva River in southwest Moscow. It is a well-known urban lookout and the site of the main building of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The area has been a recognized landmark of Moscow for centuries and later became the site of prominent 20th-century university construction; the current urban park and observation facilities have developed around these historical uses.
Sparrow Hills sits on the southwestern edge of central Moscow beside the Moskva River, within the city limits and readily reachable from central districts by road and public transport.

How to Get to Sparrow Hills #
Sparrow Hills (Vorobyovy Gory) is within Moscow and is best reached by metro: take the Sokolnicheskaya Line (Line 1) to Vorobyovy Gory station - from there it is a short 5-10 minute walk up to the main observation area. You can also use Universitet station (red line) and walk or take a local bus. By car the area is reached via Kutuzovsky Prospekt / Mosfilmovskaya Street with parking near the park and viewing platforms.
Tips for Visiting Sparrow Hills #
- Go at sunrise or sunset for the best panoramic views of the Moskva River and the Moscow skyline - the observation areas near the university give classic city vistas.
- Use Universitet metro station for a direct and relatively quiet approach to the main viewing platforms; avoid weekend afternoons when locals and tourists flock to the hill for picnics.
- Walk the wooded paths below the main overlook for different vantage points - many visitors stay only on the main plaza and miss these quieter viewpoints and photo angles.
