South Park is a small, one-block oval park in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood. The park is enclosed on all sides by streets and is lined with late 19th- to 20th-century buildings housing residences, offices and restaurants.

The central lawn and walkways form a compact green space used by local workers and residents for short visits, outdoor dining and small events. The park’s enclosed, urban character makes it a distinctive pocket park within the surrounding city fabric.

Originally laid out during the mid-19th century urban expansion of San Francisco, the park and surrounding block have retained a compact, courtyard-like form despite later development in the SoMa area.

South Park sits one block south of the main thoroughfares of San Francisco’s SoMa district, within walking distance of transit lines and commercial corridors that connect it to the city center.
