The Transamerica Pyramid is a distinctive 48-floor skyscraper in San Francisco’s Financial District, noted for its tapered, pyramid form and spire. Completed in 1972 as the headquarters for the Transamerica Corporation, the building is 260 metres (853 feet) tall and is an iconic element of the city’s skyline.

The structure’s narrow top and faceted facade create its characteristic silhouette; the building includes office floors and a publicly accessible plaza at ground level but does not have a public observation deck. It remains a prominent visual landmark when viewed from viewpoints across the city and bay.

Designed by architect William Pereira and completed in the early 1970s, the Pyramid symbolized a modern corporate presence in San Francisco and remained the city’s tallest building for several decades. It sits in the heart of the Financial District and is visible from many central neighborhoods.
