Honiara & Guadalcanal Coast
June brings steady trade-wind weather: drier days, cooler nights and stronger seas on the windward side of Guadalcanal. Surf and swell pick up along exposed beaches, and small inter-island ferries sometimes reduce service when seas are up; pack a windbreaker and expect choppier rides. This is an excellent period for clear-sky photography of WWII memorials and the gardens around Honiara, and humidity is far less oppressive than early in the year.
Central Province (Florida Islands, Tulagi, Russell Islands)
June brings consistent trade-wind weather: steady breezes, lower humidity and clearer sea conditions through the sheltered inlets of the Russell Islands. This month is excellent for island-hopping, kayaking and multi-day village visits because boats run more reliably and dive visibility improves. Bring windproof layers for early-morning boat departures and expect a quieter, more local tourism scene.
Western Province (Gizo, New Georgia, Munda, Marovo Lagoon)
June brings steady, drier conditions with consistent winds that flatten the exposed swell and clear offshore visibility around wrecks and coral gardens. Boat operators run regular services between Gizo, Munda and the smaller islands, and diving schedules are correspondingly more dependable. Pack a windbreaker for launches and plan activities for the morning when winds are gentlest and sea visibility is best.
Malaita & Savo Coastal Areas
June brings cool breezes and lower rainfall, a welcome relief for inland trail walking and overnight village stays where nights can feel fresh. Daytime sea conditions are generally favorable in sheltered waters, improving the reliability of small-charter boats and dive operations close to shore. This period is convenient for arranging multi-day cultural tours and for those who prefer less oppressive heat.
Temotu & Santa Cruz Islands (Tikopia, Anuta, Vanikoro)
June typically offers steady, drier weather and the best chances for safe boat travel among the scattered Temotu islands, though services remain infrequent and should be pre-booked. Sea conditions in sheltered reefs become excellent for snorkeling and small-boat exploration, but exposed passages can still be lively. If you’re aiming to reach Tikopia or Anuta, June-August provides the most dependable window for arrivals and departures.
Rennell, Bellona & Makira-Ulawa (Southern islands)
June is one of the most pleasant months for these islands: lower humidity, steady trade winds and generally calm lagoon waters that suit diving, fishing and canoe trips. Lake Tegano and its surrounding conservation areas are easier to access and less buggy, making guided walks and cultural visits more comfortable. Book local accommodation ahead, as services are limited but more reliable in the dry months.
