Skokholm is a small island off the southwest coast of Wales in Pembrokeshire, managed as a seabird reserve and bird observatory. The island is known for its importance to seabird breeding and long-term bird monitoring.

Visitors typically come for guided nature walks and boat trips that focus on seabird colonies, marine life and coastal habitats; access is by boat from the Pembrokeshire coast. The island’s cliffs and grassland support dense nesting populations of several seabird species.

The island’s conservation history centres on organized bird observation and ringing programmes that have tracked populations for decades. Management has emphasised protection of nesting sites and controlled visitor access to minimise disturbance.

Skokholm lies a few miles off the Pembrokeshire shore in southwest Wales, exposed to the Irish Sea and approached from mainland harbours such as Martin’s Haven and Dale.

Skokholm Island is reached only by boat. Regular passenger sailings and landings operate from the Martin’s Haven slipway on the Marloes peninsula (bookings typically handled by the island’s bird observatory/Wildlife Trust operators). By road, reach the Marloes/Martin’s Haven area via the A487 and local coast roads in Pembrokeshire; there is a small car park at Martin’s Haven and only a short walk to the slipway where boats depart.

• Plan a late‑spring to mid‑summer visit (May-August) for the best seabird activity-this is when puffins and large colonies are most visible.
• Book the boat transfer well in advance (arrivals are scheduled and weather‑dependent) and expect cancellations when seas are rough-flexible travel plans are essential.
• Join ranger‑led walks or the observatory activities where available; the island is managed for conservation and those guided sessions are the best way to see breeding seabirds and learn about local monitoring.
