Sirikit Dam

Sirikit Dam is a large multipurpose dam on the Nan River in north-central Thailand, created in the early 1970s and named in honor of Queen Sirikit.

The site comprises the earthfill dam itself and the impounded Sirikit Reservoir, which is extensive in area and supports irrigation, local fisheries and recreational activities. The surrounding area includes roads and viewpoints where visitors can observe the dam and reservoir from land.

Constructed as a national water-resource project in the late 20th century, the dam was built to provide flood control, irrigation storage and hydroelectric power for the region. It has been a key component of regional agricultural development since it came into operation.
