How to Get to Silao#
Silao is centered on Del Bajío International Airport (BJX), which sits on the town’s edge-this makes Silao one of the simplest Mexican towns to reach by air. Intercity bus services provide additional connections across the Bajío region.
Guanajuato / Del Bajío International Airport (BJX): Del Bajío (BJX) is the main airport serving Silao and the León/Guanajuato region and is located just outside Silao. From the airport to Silao centro is a short taxi or shuttle ride (about 10-20 minutes); airport taxis cost roughly MXN 200-MXN 400 and shuttle services link to León and Guanajuato.
Mexico City (MEX): From MEX you can take an intercity bus to León or Silao; total travel time is around 3.5-5 hours depending on operator and traffic, with fares varying by class (MXN 300-MXN 800).
Train: There is no regular passenger rail service that is practical for Silao-bus is the primary intercity public transport.
Bus: Silao has a central bus station with frequent services to León, Guanajuato city, Querétaro and Mexico City. Operators include line services with varied comfort levels; travel to León or Guanajuato is typically 20-60 minutes (MXN 40-MXN 150), while longer intercity routes cost more.
How to Get Around Silao#

- Airport taxis / shuttles (MXN 150-MXN 400) - BJX airport taxis and shared shuttles are the easiest way into Silao and León; official airport taxis are recommended for fixed pricing and reliability. Shuttles to Guanajuato/León are available and often bookable at arrival.
- Intercity buses (ETN/Primera/others) (MXN 60-MXN 800) - Comfortable coach services link Silao with Mexico City, León and other regional destinations. Coaches offer economies of scale for longer trips and depart from the central bus terminal-book ahead for holidays.
- Local colectivos / combis (MXN 20-MXN 60) - Shared vans and colectivos serve short regional hops around the Bajío area and are cheaper than private taxis. They depart when full and drop passengers at central points-useful for nearby towns and villages.
- Car rental / driving (MXN 600-MXN 1,500+/day) - Renting a car is popular for exploring Guanajuato state, visiting mines, vineyards and mountain towns. Roads are generally good; parking in tourist centres may be limited or paid.
- Taxis / app taxis (MXN 30-MXN 300) - Local taxis operate in Silao and León; app-based services may be available in León and nearby urban areas. For short trips in town taxis are convenient and relatively inexpensive.
